Testifying in court: Subpoena says tomorrow, but call today said Wednesday. Confused. Advice?

I have to testify in court for the first time ever this week, and I've been in contact with the District Attorney's Investigator for a couple of weeks now. The date on the subpoena says I am to appear at 8:45 AM on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Late today while I was busy working on stuff I got a phone call from the Investigator, and he said "Hi, this is Bladiblah just calling to let you know we will (tone: infact) need you to come in on Wednesday at 8:45 AM". The way that he said it was like "we do still need you to come in", rather than sounding like there had been a change to the court time, so it was a quick call that was basically me just saying "ok, see you then". But like I said, on my subpoena the date says tomorrow morning. I looked on the county court website, which has a search feature, but it didn't have anything added for Wednesday, and the court case I have to show up for isn't listed at all. I wish I had caught the difference in date before now (10:50 at night). Tomorrow's a really busy day, so I really need to know which date I am to show up on. Any advice / opinions?

Last week, I went to an Order to Show Cause hearing brought by the Department of Child Support Services two counties away, and argued that California's guideline could not produce a fair result in our case because I already voluntarily shoulder a large portion of the children's expenses with incomes roughly on a par and my timeshare only 30%. The DCSS manufactured a lower income for the other parent by underreporting earnings and claiming an inflated federal tax liability in their initial petition. I truly believe that the inputs to California's guideline calculation cannot provide a sufficiently nuanced picture of our situation to avoid doing harm to my children. But the Commissioner hearing the case shut me down on point 1 of 7 that I had ready to present. I failed at arguing against application of the guideline, and meanwhile I didn't get to challenge all the bogus inputs to the guideline. The county lawyer and DCSS social worker had a field day twiddling inputs to maximize the judgement (using court resources all morning while I waited). The other parent wasn't held to the same standard of disclosure as I, bringing only one unrepresentative paycheck. While I was informed (in the summons) that I had to file an income and expense report with 2 months of pay stubs and a tax return, signed under penalty of perjury. Do I appeal? If I apply for a change order can I subpoena the other parent's pay stubs, do I need an agent of the IRS to testify that tips are in fact taxable?

CYFD (Child Protection) in NM has stated that they cannot give custody of a child, that only a district court judge order can-I have a temporary court order which CYFD and the father ignored. I called a higher supervisor who said that it is true that CYFD cannot decided custody issues. CYFD told the father that they will testify for him for free but if I wanted the same thing I have to subpoena them and pay a $95 fee-they also made the claim to the local city police that the father was given full custody of the baby by the judge but there is no such order-would that not be abusing their authority and leave them to perjury-father caught using child's name and SSN for employment purposes and company HR going to take action.

I've got this little red bites all over. They're very itchy. I've done some research to try to figure out if they are from fleas, or bedbugs or something else all together. I put a picture of some of the bites up, the quality isn't good but its the best I can do. I do NOT have carpet in my room and my mattress is brand new. We just got it a few months ago. And we have no pets and don't live close to anyone that does so I have no idea what these bugs are or where they came from. Anyway, I was leaning towards fleas, because I have seen some of these bugs crawling around on my floor. I have seen them jump, which makes me think they're fleas. They're small and black or brown. They aren't hard to squish though? I've killed probably six of them with a book in the past hour. Also, I saw that fleas mostly bite your lower legs and I only have on bite on my ankle and several on my thighs, behind my knee, my upper arm, and a few on my stomach. Also, I read bed bugs hide in clothes and my room was VERY messy with tons of clothes everywhere. I just cleaned it yesterday, which is when I started seeing the bugs. I've only seen them on the floor. I just really need to know what these are so I can know how to go about getting rid of them. Im 25. I live in a metro area of around 200,000. The town in question is Fargo, North Dakota, i live across the river in Moorhead, Minnesota. Last year i was arrested for disorderly conduct and the charges were dropped when the city witness did not show up for court, even though they were subpoenaed. Ever since then i have been getting pulled over and ticketed for the dumbest things, no ticket has been over $20. I did not pay one as i was laid-off at the time and did not have as much money as i normally do. So my drivers license was suspended, effective May 3, 2011 12:01 am. I was pulled over at 6:48 am, for no reason. The officer claimed he ran my plates when we drove past each other head on, but he did not pull me over immediately. I went into a stop-n-go to get some breakfast before work. He followed me from the parking lot, and got behind another car. I was 4 blocks in front of him when he turned his flashers on to 'pull me over for driving with a suspended license'. He was very arrogant that he had pulled me over. I was taken to jail under $300 bond, as per his decision! I was bailed out by a coworker about an hour later. Does this fall under police harassment or am i just being paranoid? Can I turn a wired usb device into a wireless one?

I had the idea of buying a 720-S slider monitor from ThinkGeek.com. I wanted it so I could be on one side of the room, and still use my desktop that is on the other side of the room wirelessly. The 720-S slider has no internal power source, it gets all of its power from the usb. That is not a problem, I could easily hook up a laptop battery to it for power. The only problem is I don't want wires crossing the room. This is where my question comes in. Is there some peice of hardware, part, or device that will allow me to send the signal wirelessly across the room. The signal would go computer>one end of the usb cord>unknown device>wireless movement>other part of the unknown device>other end of the usb cord>my monitor. Why would you have a change of heart? I believe you did the right thing by pressing charges if you were actually harmed by someone. By letting things go or having the charges dropped, you give the individual that hurt you the idea that what they did was okay.

I'm suing a mechanic because he installed a used engine in my car and didn't give me the 90 day warranty that was promised. Within the 90 days it was leaking oil and he refused to fix the leak. Had he given me the 90 day warranty it would've been covered. I reported him to the Bureau of Auto Repair...I thought that he agreed to fix the leak but he only agreed to look at it, then he tried to get me to sign this form that said in fine print at the bottom "no warranty on used engines" but I caught it just in time. We literally fought over the paper and I tore it but kept it for records. I'm suing him for the amount it costs to fix the leak. I paid cash for the most part and he didn't give me receipts but i have records of the portion I paid using my debit card. It's too late for me to subpoena the records of everything from the Bureau, which basically document everything said and done on all parts (me,mechanic and investigator). Do you think I still have a chance getting my judgement? I have the paper he tried to get me to sign to try to refute his 90 day warranty, pics of the leakage, and bank statements showing all that I paid him.

Pleading the 5th is not a get out of jail free card. It just means you are not going to answer questions that incriminate you. However if they have enough proff without your testimony then they will proceed. Have not seen any statistics on "How often is a person pursued for charges after they plead the fifth?"

What's the difference between a subpoena and a warrant?

From watching crime/court shows, i have a vague idea. I think that maybe a subpoena let's you get things that you wouldn't normally be able to get (like medical records, bank records, a person to appear in court) and a warrant like lets you do things you wouldn't normally be able to do (like search someones house or arrest them). I was sitting in the courtyard of my apartment with my dog when an electrician working on the property walked by. My dog ran up to him, not barking or aggressive at all, and the man swung his clipboard at my dog twice. I got upset and yelled at him telling him he was a cruel piece of %#@!. I walked around the complex with my dog and he was standing there on his phone when i was walking back to my apartment. He came towards me and said keep you and your dog away from me. I started yelling at him again, which i'll admit was wrong, and then went to my apartment. About a week later i was woken up at 6 in the morning by police officers knocking at my door and arrested on a warrant. I was charged with terroristic threatening and harassment with physical contact then sat in a holding cell for 16 hours before i was released on a promise to appear. I went to court 2 days later and was told that the actual court date is in 3 weeks. Now I'm 2.5 weeks away from the court date and i'm wondering what i should do. As far as i know there were no witnesses to the incident except for whoever he was on the phone with when i was screaming. I never threatened harm to him in anyway. I was just yelling about how mad i was that he came onto my property and instigated this whole incident. The courtyard was huge and he could of simply walked around my dog and i instead of right next to us in order to avoid the whole incident. As well as the fact that he shouldn't of approached me on my walk back to my apartment. My concern is that he claimed i spit on him in the charges which is a lie. I'm worried, since i can't afford an attorney that i may lose the case regardless of my innocence. What should i do? Is there any chance he won't show up even though he has been subpoenaed? In a case like this, do i have any chance by representing myself? Thank you for any advice.
