My Classic Ipod is not syncing songs?

I am trying to sync songs onto my ipod, but it is not working. It appears that it is syncing, but it is not. It says in itunes " Verifying Linda's Ipod" but it has said that for 45 minutes. Is my ipod broken? I had it out in the rain the other day... so im worried. Will Apple repair this?
