How hard is it to run/own a dog/cat boarding kennel?

Running a cattery/kennel is hard work. It is a 7 day job with long hours. There are strict rules and regulations you need to meet. It is not a job /business you start to just make money. You are looking after people much loved pets so a huge responsiblity. You also need plenty of space you can't live near other people you need to live in the middle of now where as no neighbour would want to live near a cattery/kennel. And forget spending much time with your children you will be to busy. You couldn't run it on your own far to much work you would need to hire at least one part- timer to help out.
